Creating Beautiful Outdoor Spaces: The Charlotte Payne Way
About
Growing up on the Isle of Wight, I've always had a love for the outdoors and feel most comfortable when surrounded by nature. My grandad ran a successful tomato and salad farm on the island, so as a young child I would often be found in the vegetable patch helping to grow our own fresh produce or in the borders, weeding with my grandma.
As a passionate and enthusiastic horticulturist, I believe that every garden has the potential to be beautiful, no matter the size or location. Having studied horticulture and gained my level 2 certification at the Isle of Wight College, I am well-equipped to understand and work with a wide range of plant types. My experience as a gardener and vegetable grower at Ventnor Botanic Garden has provided me with a unique perspective into the art of garden design. Every space is different, and I love the challenge of finding the perfect balance between form and function in each project.
A Passion for Nature and Design
Our Passion
This project was for an amazing client whos garden had become out of control. She wanted to use the garden for relaxing with her son and entertaining with friends. With a stressful work life she needed a place to retreat and emerse herself in nature and enchorage more wildlife into the gadren. She also wanted to try growing some of her own fresh produce.
WILDLIFE GARDEN WITH WILDFLOWER MEADOW
Projects
A garden to suit young family garden in Chepstow. The main priority was to create privacy, as this is a new build which can often be slightly over looked. They wanted an area for their two young children to play while maintaining some adult areas to relax and entertain guests. They were keen to experiment with some vegetable growing in their spare time and include a small water feature.
CHEPSTOW GARDEN
Projects
A complete redesign for a couple in Bristol who wanted to make the most of their large wrap around garden, focusing the bulk of the budget on the back garden. They asked for an entertaining space with some shade provided for dining while maintiaing an area for some sun bathing, a lawn for their grandchildren to play and some seperate seating areas to create a journey through the garden. With a Mediterranean feel and planting.

Process
This is where we first meet to discuss your ideas and hopes for your outdoor space. I can get a feel for the space, the surrounding area as well as your home and style.
INITIAL CONSULTATION
01
The next step is to start coming up with mood boards and ideas from the initial consultation. The second meeting will be to see the first draft of the design which is a working drawing in pencil.
CONCEPTUAL PROPOSALS
02
The finalised design is then put to pen and labelled, all of my designs are drawn by hand for a more personal touch. Now I can get to work on the planting plan.
DETAILED PROPOSALS
03
The construction details are finalised and sent off to the contractors along with the setting out drawing and scope of works detailing the specific materials for the design.
TENDER
04
After the project is complete and reviewed, aftercare advice is given to make sure the garden is properly cared for and keeps looking its best.
